Downers Grove Man Pleads Guilty to Denburn Woods Burglary: Court Watch

Patch catches you up on some of DuPage County's high-profile court cases.

The following are recent developments in notable DuPage County court cases:

Downers Grove Man Pleads Guilty to Denburn Woods Burglary

Downers Grove: A Downers Grove man has pleaded guilty to a burglary charge stemming from 2011 break-ins in Denburn Woods. However, Andrew Walczak's sentence won't be settled until the judge and attorneys in the case learn how he performs during his time in the county's drug court program, according to court documents.

Walczak, 20, admitted to one count of burglary during a Sept. 5 hearing. He was arrested in July 2011 after a manhunt shut down the neighborhood after police received a report of a man with a gun, who apparently fled into the woods after trying to break into parked cars.

Walczak was never charged with a weapons violation.

He returns to court for a status hearing on Sept. 27.

Woman Accused of Biting Good Sam Nurse Seeks Mental Health Treatment

Downers Grove/Lisle: Kristy Wavra, the Lisle woman accused of biting a nurse technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in April, has asked a judge to place her in the county's mental health program. Wavra, 56, was arrested after the April 1 incident. She filed a request to be put into DuPage County's Mental Illness Court Alternative Program - a treatment-based pretrial diversion program - during a recent court appearance on the aggravated battery charge, records show. Wavra faces the same charge in connection to a March incident where prosecutors allege she spit in the face of a Lisle police officer. Prosecutors describe Wavra as a Hepatitis C carrier in that case. She returns to court Oct. 26 for an update on her MICAP application.

Lisle Man Sentenced in Child Pornography Case

Lisle: A Lisle man was sentenced to 180 days in DuPage County Jail and placed on four years of sex offender probation after he was found guilty of child pornography possession. Patrick Meyer was arrested earlier this year after police found suspected child pornography on the computer in his apartment. Meyer had fought to have the charges thrown out saying police illegally seized evidence by way of a warrant-less search. After withdrawing an earlier guilty plea, he was convicted during a stipulated bench trial in July. At his Sept. 10 sentencing, Meyer was also ordered to register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender counseling and to pay $2,215 in fines and costs, court records show.

Sentencing Scheduled in Elderly Neglect Case

Naperville: Sentencing is scheduled for this week in the case of a McHenry County woman who pleaded guilty to neglecting her elderly mother in 2009. Brenda Tucker, 55, of McCullom Lake, admitted in June to one count of criminal neglect of an elderly person for failing to provide hygienic care to 82-year-old Betty Tucker, of Naperville, over a one-month period on June and July 2009. Prosecutors dropped three other similar counts relating to medical care as part of the plea agreement. Betty Tucker died in July 2009, and Brenda Tucker was indicted in 2010, according to court documents. Sentencing is set for Sept. 18.
