Email Scam

A woman in the 4200 block of Saratoga Avenue reported on Sept. 19 that she was scammed out of $300, police said.

The woman told police she received an email in July that said she had won millions of dollars in a sweepstakes. Although she believed it was a scam, she acted against her feeling and kept a dialogue going with the person who contacted her. She eventually received a certificate in the mail saying she had won millions from a group called USA Most Awareness, so the woman believed the sweepstakes was credible, police said.

Drug Possession

Rebecca P. Nielsen, 33, of the 1700 block of Hazelnut Lane in Aurora, was arrested around 5:22 p.m. near Chicago Avenue and Main Street, police said.

A police officer pulled over Nielsen after noticing several necklaces obstructing her windshield, and learning that her license was suspended, according to the report. Nielsen was placed under arrest, and an officer conducted an inventory search of her car before it was towed. The officer located in the center console a small glass bottle and a small metal container with a green leafy substance—suspected to be cannabis. He also found a pipe with burnt residue, a small wooden box with cannabis residue and a small pink pill container with white pills.

Nielsen was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also cited for driving with a suspended license and obstructed windshield. She was issued an Oct. 31 court date.
