Drug Possession, Property Damage, Car Burglaries: Police Blotter

THURSDAY, NOV. 1

Stolen Chevrolet Tahoe

A green 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe was stolen from a home in the 4500 bock of Roslyn Road around 4 p.m., police said. The vehicle had been unlocked, and the keys were underneath the driver side floor mat. Before fleeing the scene, the offender also rummaged through a Ford Focus parked on the driveway, police said.

Altered Vehicle Registration

Amy M. Krupa, 31, of the 300 block of 60th Street in Westmont, was arrested around 1:06 a.m. in the 900 block of 63rd Street in Downers Grove, police said.

Police said they observed Krupa traveling eastbound on 63rd Street with her bright lights on. As their vehicle approached, she failed to dim her lights as required by law, police said.

When police stopped her, they noticed the registration sticker on the license plate was actually a piece of orange cardboard with "08-13" written in black marker, the report stated. The plates expired in August 2012, police said.

Krupa was arrested and charged with failure to dim headlights when required, operating a vehicle with expired registration and unlawful display of an altered registration sticker. She was issued a Dec. 12 court date.

Car Burglary on 75th Street

A car was burglarized in the 1500 block of 75th Street sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., police said. A driver's license and credit cards were stolen.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 31

Car Burglary on Ogden Avenue

A car was burglarized at a dealership in the 1800 block of Ogden Avenue sometime between 10 a.m. on Oct. 27 and 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, police said. Among the stolen items were a Garmin GPS unit, $10 in cash and $10 in coins.

Van Damaged on Butterfield Road

A van was damaged outside a business in the 1400 block of Butterfield Road sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m., police said. The owner told police someone used an unknown object to break out the rear window on the passenger side.

Altercation in Butterfield Road Parking Lot

Police were called to a business in the 1500 block of Butterfield Road around 8:22 p.m. for a report of property damage.

The owner of a 2009 Honda CRV showed officers a 4-inch scratch on the rear passenger side of her vehicle, claiming it was caused by the driver of a 2004 Lincoln Navigator, police said.

According to the report, the woman told police she was walking into a store when the Lincoln pulled out in front of her. She admitted to striking the Lincoln's rear passenger window out of anger, police said.

The man driving the Lincoln said he got out of his car and confronted the woman, who said she was going to call the police. When the woman went back to the parking lot, a witness told her the man scratched her Honda, police said.

When questioned by police, the man admitted to scratching the rear quarter panel of the Honda with a pen, police said.

Neither driver wanted to press charges. The man is expected to compensate the woman for damaging her vehicle, police said.

TUESDAY, OCT. 30

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Robert F. Setlik, 43, of the 6700 block of W. 63rd Place in Chicago, was arrested in the 900 block of Warren Avenue around 9:23 p.m., police said.

An officer noticed two men in a parked vehicle, which was isolated from other vehicles in the lot, police said. When he approached the car, he noticed smoke coming from the front windows, and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana, police said.

When questioned, the men told officers they were smoking before a showing of Ted at a local theater, the report stated. While searching the vehicle, officers found a film canister with a small amount of marijuana, police said.

One of the men, identified as Setlik, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis. He was issued a Dec. 12 court date.

Car Burglary on Ogden Avenue

A car was burglarized at a dealership in the 2100 block of Ogden Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 and noon on Oct. 30, police said. The manager of the dealership told police several airbags were stolen from vehicles parked outside.
