DUI Roundup: 10 Good Reasons Not to Drink and Drive

DUI Roundup information was supplied by area police departments during the week prior to Jan. 24, 2014. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A recent Huffington Post story explains “9 Ways A DUI Will Destroy Your Career.” You don’t need a law degree to figure out what they are, but let’s review, shall we?

(1) Your licenses could be suspended. Hard to make a living these days — or any days in the last century, really — without a driver’s license.

(2) You could lose your job. A lot of workplaces will let you go if you get a DUI. Might be good to check if your employer is one of them.

(3) Your insurance can be revoked. Or you can get hit with significantly higher rates.

(4) You could get put in a diversion program. Which could save your license but get you sacked anyway.

(5) You could lose your professional license. Lawyers, nurses, doctors and plumbers (we’re not making this up) beware.

(6) You would miss a lot of work. Court appearances, mandatory treatment — you get the idea.

(7) You could be in trouble if you change jobs. DUI will appear in public records.

(8) You might be edged out of going to school, or back to school. Financial aid will ask if you’ve got convictions.

(9) You could lose a commercial driver’s license. Hey, maybe you’d like to drive a limo someday. Can’t if you’ve got a DUI.

Yes, some of this is simplistic, but it’s probably safe to say you don’t want to hit good old reason No. 10: Your name appears in the Patch DUI Roundup ...
