An unlocked car parked in the 1200 block of Hawkins Avenue was entered and the passenger front door left ajar sometime between 8 p.m. on October 15 and 8 a.m. October 26.. Loss prevention observed Reynoso try to pry the security boxes on the games open before stopping and putting all six items in his front waistband. Reynoso proceeded to go to the checkout counter and pay for two smaller items. A Loss Prevention agent followed Reynoso outside and called DGPD.

Theft over $500

A silver Honda pool pump valued at $1,000 was stolen from Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club on Fairview sometime between 7 p.m. on October 25 and 9:30 a.m. October 26. A grounds keeper stated he left the pump outside because he was maintaining and treating the pools for the season, and when he arrived to check on the pool he discovered the pump missing. There were no signs of forced entry, so offender probably had to climb the fence to enter.

Robbery

The parent of a student at Henry Puffer school contacted DGPD concerning an incident that occurred on October 25 at 4 p.m.. The parent stated she contacted her daughter by cell phone around 4:30 p.m. to find out why the daughter wasn't home yet as she was supposed to be home by 4:15. The daughter told her mother she had just been attacked by three unknown white male teenagers with rocks. The teenagers allegedly had stolen her ear buds which had since been recovered. Upon further investigation by DGPD it was determined the girl lost the property on her own and the incident was unfounded. The matter will be handled within the family.

Possession of Cannabis

While conducting traffic enforcement in a parking lot on Burlington Ave, an officer observed a red truck park for spots north of the officer. The occupants of the truck then began smoking from a pipe consistent with smoking marijuana with a pipe. As the officer approached the car on the drivers side and the driver, 49-year-old Michael Fixer of 1901 Calumet Ave in Chicago, opened the door, and the officer could smell marijuana. The officer asked Fixler if he had been smoking and Fixler appeared shocked and confused by the officer's presence. Fixler was then asked to step out of the vehicle which prompted Fixler to admit he was smoking but that he didn't want the passenger, 49-year-old Carla Vanzuuk of the same address in Chicago, charged with anything. The pot and pipe were in Vanzuuk's purse and both were handcuffed and searched with negative results. Vanzuuk requested the pit bull in the truck be left in the trunk until she was released or she would call her father to get the dog. Both were charged with a two count complaint for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft under $500

The owner of a car sold in 2010 contacted DGPD to tell them he received citations from the Lyons Police Department on two separate occasions in July of 2011 for not having a village sticker. The owner told DGPD when he sold the car he threw away the license plates, breaking one of them in half, and that he didn't know anyone who lived in Lyons and had no clue who could've taken the plates from his garbage.

Lost property

A black “Mercedes Benz” wallet valued at $50 which contained various credit cards and a Brazilian drivers license was reported lost to DGPD on October 24. The owner of the wallet stated he called the two businesses he had visited that day before realizing his wallet was gone but neither of them had seen the wallet.

Criminal damage to property

Bolt hinges on a gate at the rear lot of Bill Kay Nissan on Ogden were cut sometime between 7 p.m. October 22 and 7 a.m. October 24. The gate was still attached by a heavy chain and it was unknown if access was gained. Nothing was missing or damaged.
