Employee Retail Theft

Ryan P. Fleming, 22, of the 1400 block of McCormick Place, Wheaton, was charged with retail theft at a store where he works on the 2900 block of Finley Road. The store's loss prevention manager told police that there was an ongoing investigation of missing merchandise since April, and Fleming was the suspect. The manager provided surveillance video showing Fleming "staging" merchandise in the south warehouse, according to a police report.

Fleming was approached at his vehicle outside the store and merchandise worth a total of $293.97 was recovered. This included two pairs each of Adidas and Nike shoes and a package of Godiva chocolates, the report said.

An officer took Fleming to the police department for full booking procedures. He declined to speak about the incident and politely told police he made his statement to store security. Fleming was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and was released on I-bond with a July 31 court date in Wheaton.
