Lawn Job

A man saw a vehicle riding on the front lawns of his neighbors on the 5300 block of Cumnor. The vehicle at 1:52 a.m. traveled northbound across the front lawns, traveled to the middle of the block, made a U-turn and then traveled southbound on Cumnor, according to a police report.

A police officer found deep tire marks in two lawns on the 5300 block of Cumnor. By the time the man got outside, the vehicle was gone so he did not have a description for the officer. Neither the vehicle or any other evidence were found in the area, the report said.

Someone was Here

A single set of muddy shoe impressions were found inside a vacant apartment on the 4200 block of Saratoga Avenue. The person who reported the incident said a board that was originally over one of the apartment's windows was now on the ground. An officer arrived at 4:28 p.m. and did not notice any obvious signs of theft or damage. The front door was unlocked, but he was able to secure it.  There were no cigarette butts, cans and no items in the trash bin. "It did not appear that a squatter had been inside the unit for any period of time," the report said.

Scam Fail

A woman on the 6900 block of Waterfall Place reported a phone scam that involved buying MoneyCards at Walmart to pay off federal taxes. At about 11 a.m. she received a call from a male that claimed to be an officer, according to a report. He told her she owed $13,000 in taxes and that three notices were already sent to her. He said if the debt was not paid immediately, the police department would come to the house to make an arrest.

After the caller was having difficult communicating with the woman, he put someone on the phone that tried to downplay the situation. The second man told her that the actual amount to be paid was $2,850 through MoneyCards at Walmart. He then said she was to purchase the cards and that someone would pick them up.

A man who lives at the home arrived later and heard what happened. He told police he was concerned that the callers knew their names and that they would come by in person to pick up the MoneyCards. He will sign a complaint if the offenders are identified, the report said.
