Police Blotter: Graffiti at Downers Grove Park, Retail Theft at Store

Downers Grove police reports, Aug. 7-13

TUESDAY, AUG. 13

Burglary From Motor Vehicle

A $25 cell phone charger was taken from a woman's vehicle on the 3900 block of Saratoga Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and 3 p.m. Aug. 13, according to a police report. The woman's son drove the car on Aug. 12 to park the car in the building parking lot and forgot to lock the doors. Complaints will be signed if the offender is ever located.

Graffiti at Downers Park

Someone spray-painted several signs on the east side of Gilbert Park on the 1500 block of Gilbert Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between noon Aug. 9 and 10 a.m. Aug. 13, according to a police report. The spray paint was in pink, blue and black colors and the word "SOMI" was on most of the graffiti. There were no suspects or leads. 

SATURDAY, AUG. 10

Man Charged With Retail Theft

Brian Sumpay, 38, of the 6500 block of Cambridge Road, Willowbrook, was charged with retail theft. He was arrested after 3:09 p.m. after he was seen taking a $49.95 cell phone cover and $27.96 in miscellaneous connecting wires from a store on the 3300 block of Finley Road. Sumpay posted $120 bond and was released with a court date to be assigned in Downers Grove.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 7

$1,200 Grease Trap Trouble

Someone drilled a hole in the bottom of a grease trap container of a restaurant on the 900 block of Warren Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 11 a.m., according to a police report. The restaurant plumbing flows into the underground garage of condos on the 900 block of Rogers Street. The cost to have the grease trap emptied and sealed back up is about $1,200, the report said. No suspect information was available.
