Downers Grove Police issued 33 citations and confiscated three disabled placards during a week-long task force operation focusing on disabled parking violations.
The task forces were conducted Dec. 13 through 20 at major shopping malls within the village. The task forces, conducted to assist the disabled and elderly during the holiday season, also resulted in nine written warnings and 15 verbal warnings.
Motorists are reminded that the person to whom the placard or plates are registered must enter or exit the vehicle when occupying a handicapped parking space. Unauthorized use can result in a $500 fine, driver's license suspension and suspension or revocation of the plate or placard.

Downers Grove Police will continue to monitor handicapped parking areas periodically throughout the holiday season.
