The officer questioned Perez, who said they were paying cash to another woman who had rented the car and extended the expired rental agreement. Aurora police declined to press charges for the stolen car because of Perez’s relationship to the car renter.

Perez also misstated her identity to the Downers Grove officer until he located her identification in her companion’s jacket. A check of Perez's license revealed the outstanding warrants, police said. Perez was transported to DuPage County Jail on the outstanding warrants.

6:58 p.m.: A resident in the 5500 block of Middaugh Avenue called police after two people came to his home on Feb. 7 and Feb. 14 saying they were interested in renting the property. They said they saw the ad on Craigslist and when they called the number, a man posing as the owner of the home told them he was moving to South America. The man also instructed one of the people to walk around the property and look in windows. Police said the ad could not be found on the Internet site and may have been a scam run from an overseas location.
