A man who was convicted and sentenced in DuPage County for criminal sexual assault — and has been on the lam for almost six years — was arrested Wednesday in Mexico, according to a DuPage County Sheriff's Office press release.

Pedro Cerritos Seriteno, 35, of Mexico, was indicted in 2002 and a warrant was issued for his arrest for a criminal sexual assault charge, according to the news release. He was accused of committing the sexual assault in 2000.

He was eventually arrested in April 2008 and posted 10 percent of his $100,000 bond on May 19, 2008. Officials believe he then fled to Mexico, according to the news release.

He was tried in absentia in September 2008, found guilty of criminal sexual assault and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Sheriff’s detectives assigned to The United States Marshal Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force received information of the possible location of Seriteno. The investigation led the taskforce to a location in Mexico where he was taken into custody.

Seriteno was extradited back to United States and is currently in the DuPage County Jail.

"Leave him in Mexico". Tell the person he assaulted that were not going to go after him because he is in mexico and we don't want to waste anymore money on him.
