Mysterious Letters from Prison

A woman in the 1800 block of Prairie Avenue told police she received two letters in two months from an inmate of the Illinois Department of Corrections, who indicated he wanted to be her pen pal. The letter was not vulgar or offensive, police said.

The woman told police she was "disturbed that someone has listed her name and information on a prison pen pal list, and would like to sign complaints against whoever did it," according to reports.

Phone Harassment

A woman told police she received several phone calls from an unknown number at work between Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, according to reports.

The woman looked up the number on Google, and discovered it was coming from Texas, police said. Because she doesn't know anyone in Texas, she ignored the call.

However, the woman received a message from the caller—a man who spoke with an Indian accent. In the message, the man said there was a warrant for the woman's arrest and that he would call the police and have her arrested unless she sent him $150, police said.

One of the woman's co-workers told her there were 20 calls from the number on Feb. 20, which prompted the woman to contact the police.

Officers attempted to reach the man, but the line was disconnected, according to reports.

Stolen Jewelry

A gold heart necklace and silver earrings were stolen from a table top while a female patient was getting an MRI at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, 3815 Highland Ave., police said.
