Jewelry Stolen in Downers Grove Home Burglary, DUIs, Pot Bust: Police Blotter

TUESDAY, DEC. 11

Residential Burglary

A home in the 7000 block of Powell Court was burglarized sometime between 4:50 p.m. and 6:05 p.m., police said. 

The homeowner told police someone entered her home and ransacked the master bedroom and her children's bedrooms. When she realized what happened, she took her children outside until officers could search the rest of her home, police said.

According to reports, approximately $2,300 in jewelry was stolen, including the victim's wedding ring, necklaces, earrings and two watches. About $50 in cash was also missing, police said.

MONDAY, DEC. 10

Car Burglary on at Mitsubishi Dealership

A car was burglarized at Max Madsen Mitsubishi, 2424 Ogden Ave., sometime between 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 10, police said. The passenger side window was smashed in and the steering wheel's airbag was removed.

SATURDAY, DEC. 8

DUI

Victor A. Martinez, 47, of the 1400 block of Wild Meadow in Round Lake, was arrested around 11:19 p.m. in the 1100 block of Parker, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was issued a Jan. 16, 2013 court date in Wheaton.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5

Possession of Marijuana

Anthony S. Sassan, 18, of the 7600 block of Deerfield Avenue in Woodridge, was arrested around 11:37 p.m. in the 7300 block of Fairview Avenue, police said.

Sassan was stopped for failing to stop and a stop sign and making a right turn without using a signal, police said. When the officer approached th vehicle, he observed a large amount of smoke and detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana, according to reports.

A large container filled with one bag of marijuana was found in the glove box, police said. The officer also reportedly found a blunt that had been partially smoked.

Sassan was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and disobeying a stop sign. He was issued a Jan. 9, 2013 court date in Wheaton.

TUESDAY, DEC. 4

DUI

Jacob M. Saflarski, 35, of the 500 block of Brookside Drive in Westmont, was arrested around 3:58 a.m. near 63rd Street and Fairview Avenue, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to signal and improper lane usage. He was issued a Jan. 2, 2013 court date in Wheaton.
