Man Caught Stealing Pornographic DVD

Attempted motor vehicle theft, residential burglary among reports

Retail Theft

Matthew Michels, 19 of 384 Lorraine Road in Glen Ellyn, was charged with retail theft after being observed removing a pornographic DVD from its package and putting it in his front pocket before attempting to exit without paying at Fry's Electronics on January 23.

Someone attempted to steal a 2001 Chrysler Sebring parked in the XSport Fitness lot on January 23 sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.. The owner came out after working out and found the steering column cover removed and the ignition broken off the steering wheel. DGPD did not notice any forced entry into the car, so it may have been left unlocked.

Criminal Damage to Property

An unknown offender scratched the door of a car parked in the YMCA lot on 59th street sometime between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on January 22.

An unknown offender threw an empty beer bottle through a glass window at Allure Motors on Ogden Avenue sometime on January 21. The damage to the window was estimated at $100.

Theft Under $500

A wallet was stolen from the purse of a woman shopping at Savers on Highland around 4:30 p.m. on January 23.

Possession of Cannabis

A traffic stop on January 21 for a car driving with a suspended registration resulted in Kyle Adkisson, 22 of 4200 Venard Road in Downers Grove, being charged with possession of drug equipment, possession of cannabis, as well as being cited for driving on suspended plates and having no insurance.

Residential Burglary

A house in the 7000 block of Terrace Drive was broken into on January 18 sometime between 11:55 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.. The damage to the front door was estimated at $500 and the stolen property—including a laptop, hard drive, jewelry boxes, $70 in cash and more—was estimated at $1,600.

Theft Over $500

A woman claiming to be from 7-11's corporate office contacted an employee of 7-11 on Main Street on January 21 and instructed the employee to put $900 on two separate “dot cards” and give her the pin number, which the employee did. Several minutes after the phone call the employee realized he made a mistake and contacted the corporate office to have the cards canceled.

Battery

A student at DGS was arrested for allegedly inappropriately touching a female student in class over the span of a couple of months, against the student's wishes.

Disorderly Conduct

A member at Blast Fitness on 75th Street was asked to leave the gym on January 25 after arguing extensively with the staff. Later, a male claiming to be the brother of the member came into the store and started asking personal questions about the manager and became agitated when asked to leave. The male told the employee he'd be waiting for him to get off work in the parking lot, causing the employee to become alarmed.

DGPD officers broke up a fight between two female students in the DGS cafeteria on January 10. During the scuffle, a male student had to be handcuffed after allegedly charging at one of the officers. The officer thought the student was preparing to strike him or another staff member.

Suspicious Incident

While walking his dog, a resident of the Prentiss Creek building in the was approached by two black males in plain clothes who identified themselves as police officers on January 19 around 11 p.m.. The men claimed the resident matched the description of a drug dealer they were looking for, and they patted the resident down and checked his wallet. After looking at his ID, the men told him he wasn't who they were looking for and walked away. Both men were approximately 5' 11” with an average build. It's unknown whether or not they were actually police officers.
