Man Charged After Making a Break with Steak

Items from Downers Grove Police reports for March 24-27

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Thursday, March 24

2:44 p.m.: Nicole C. Zickus, 32, of Darien was charged with retail theft at Marshalls, 1220 75th St., after a loss prevention employee observed and videotaped Zickus allegedly conceal a bottle of perfume valued at $14.99 in her purse and a pair of underwear valued at $6.99 in her sleeve. Zickus paid for two pairs of underwear and was stopped by the employee when she left the store. Zickus denied taking anything, got into a car and sped out of the parking lot. Zickus was located and charged after the employee gave the license plate information and description of the car to police.

5:48 p.m.: Yee Seer See, 43, of Aurora was charged with retail theft after allegedly taking three flash drives valued at $257 from Fry’s Electronics, 3300 Finley Road. A loss prevention employee observed See allegedly remove the items from packages and place them in a bag. See was stopped after exiting the store and police were called.

Friday, March 25

7:32 a.m.: A Schwinn bicycle valued at $50 was taken from a garage in the 7200 block of Lyman Avenue between 7:10 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. Police said the owner was preparing to leave for work and on his way to the car from the house when he noticed his bike helmet on the driveway and the bike missing from the garage. Police later found the bike outside the nearby TJ Maxx store and believe someone from apartments by the home may have taken the bike to get to work. The homeowner also stated that people frequently cut through his yard.  

9:24 a.m.: A GPS valued at $400, a wallet valued at $20, and $50 in cash was taken from an unlocked car in the 1000 block of Norfolk Street between 1 p.m. March 23 and 8:15 a.m. March 25. Police said the owner found the wallet about 8:40 a.m. March 25 on a parkway at 63rd Street with only the cash missing.

Saturday, March 26

2:45 p.m. Two animal traps valued at $85 were taken from a residence in the 500 block of Prairie Avenue between 6 p.m. March 25 and 10:30 a.m. March 26. Police said the traps had been set because of animal problems on the property.

5:55 p.m.: Brian E. Liska, 23, of Bolingbrook was charged with retail theft after allegedly taking two packages of round steak valued at $9.75 from Westbook Market, 2065 63rd St. An employee observed Liska and another man enter the store and told police they appeared to be intoxicated. After the other man left the store, Liska was observed allegedly taking packages from the meat department and attempting to place them under his shirt.

His first attempt was unsuccessful and Liska left the meat in another aisle of the store. Liska returned to the meat department, allegedly placed two packages of round steak under his clothes and tried to walk out of the store. Police said Liska started to run when an employee attempted to stop him and another employee had to assist in keeping Liska from leaving. Due to Liska’s criminal history, he was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and transported to DuPage County Jail on a parole violation, according to the police report.

Sunday, March 27

8:39 a.m.: A patrol officer performing business checks discovered two glass front door panels and a cash register were damaged and $400 in cash taken from a business in the 400 block of 75th Street.  Officers, who had to crawl through the lower portion of the door to gain entry, found the business ransacked. Police said items from a desk drawer and shelves were scattered on the floor and a storage cabinet in the back room had been pried open. Damage to the glass door and register is estimated at $450.

5:08 p.m.: A front window was damaged in the 600 block of 67th Street between 10:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. Police said the resident came home and found the window shattered and a rock on the floor inside. Damage is estimated at $1,000.
