Man Charged with Drinking Alcohol at Train Stations

Police called to Main Street, Fairview Avenue stations.

A Downers Grove man was charged with drinking in public at local train stations twice in two days.

Cecil A. Downs, 46, was charged with drinking in public March 12 after police were alerted at about 9 a.m. to a man drinking inside the Main Street train station, 1000 Burlington Ave. Police found Downs with an open can of beer and six more in a case next to him. He was transported to DuPage County Jail after a check revealed a DUI warrant, police said.

A day later, police were called to the Fairview Avenue station, 5099 Fairview Ave., at 3:19 p.m.  An approaching officer saw Downs take a drink from a can of Labatt beer inside a plastic bag, but as the officers came closer, the can of beer was on the ground. Downs initially denied it was his, then apologized and offered to pour the beer out and move along, according to the police report.
