Marijuana Found in Middle School Locker

Retail theft, stolen cell-phone among reports.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Drug investigation

The principal of Herrick Middle School contacted DGPD in reference to an anonymous tip that an unknown quantity of drugs was in a student's locker at the school. DGPD investigated and found a small plastic bag containing a leafy green substance in a student's backpack in one of the lockers. The student was transported to DGPD and placed in the student's parent's custody. The value of the two grams of marijuana in the bag was estimated to be $5.

Burglary from motor vehicle

Two cars were unlawfully entered in the 400 and 500 block of 73rd street sometime between 11 p.m. October 29 and 12:30 p.m. October 30. Both of the car owners stated they were sure they locked their car doors, but neither incident showed evidence of forced entry or tampering. The only thing reported missing was a Tom-Tom GPS valued at $200.

A car parked in the Lao Sze Chuan House parking lot on Ogden Avenue was broken into while the owner was in the restaurant on October 29 sometime between 6:40 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.. The drivers side front window was smashed and a Blackberry Bold cell phone valued at $400 was taken. A purse and GPS in the car was left untouched.

Criminal damage to property

The owner of a 2006 Ford Escape parked in a parking lot her apartment building shares with Coldwell Banker on Main Street reported two of the doors of her car had its paint scratched by an unknown offender sometime between 6 p.m. October 21 and 10 a.m. October 28. The car was parked in the same spot during that time because the victim was out of town at the time. The victim things one of Coldwell's employees might have scratched the doors out of frustration with the victim's car being parked in the same space for a week. The damage was valued at $400.

Battery

DGPD responded in reference to a delayed battery on October 28 and spoke to a parent of a kid who said he was beat up by another boy while playing with each other in a park at Henry Puffer School. According to the report, the two boys started fighting with each other after one called the other a “weenie” and the other responded in kind. Neither kid was injured and no action was taken.

Retail Theft

Pamela Booker, 49-years-old of 7349 Lemont Road in Lisle, was arrested and issued a citation for retail theft after Booker attempted to steal a plethora of items from TJ Maxx Home Goods on Lemont Road. Booker was observed by a Loss Prevention agent entering the store with a shopping cart that had numerous empty bags in it. Loss prevention observed Booker go around the store and place various items into those bags before leaving without paying for them. Loss prevention followed Booker to her car and escorted her back to the store where DGPD transported and charged her.

Found property

A brown tri-fold wallet was found in the 7300 block of York Road on October 28 and turned into DGPD. The wallet had no identification.
