Men Charged With Attempted Theft of Meat

Items from Downers Grove Police Reports for April 20-23

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Wednesday, April 20

3:28 p.m.: Keith M. Burgs, 27, of Woodridge and Farrell P. Burgs, 29, of Woodridge were charged with retail theft at Westbrook Market, 2065 63rd St., after allegedly attempting to take packages of meat valued at $9.46. An employee observed both place a package of meat in their pants and start to leave the store. The two noticed the employee walking toward them and returned to the back of the store. Farrell Burgs was seen placing his package of meat back into the meat display and Keith Burgs left his package in another aisle. The two were stopped by the employee and brought to the front office until police arrived. Police said another employee also witnessed the incident.

Thursday, April 21

10:55 a.m.: Tires were damaged on two cars parked at a residence in the 3900 block of Forest Avenue between 10:30 p.m. April 20 and 5 a.m. April 21. The resident reported the tires of her boyfriend’s car lost pressure when she drove it to a nearby gas station, requiring it to be towed back to the house. When she moved her car from the driveway for the tow truck, she discovered three of the tires were flat. Police said no puncture holes were found on the tires and the boyfriend called later stating he had previously heard air escaping when filling his tires. The boyfriend believed the holes were small because the tires lost air pressure slowly. The damaged tires were valued at $700.

11:18 a.m.: Four wood-and-metal signs at Loy Park, 2040 Warren Ave., were damaged with graffiti between 8 a.m. April 20 and 8 a.m. April 21.Police said markers and spray paint were used on the signs and on the side of a slide at the park. Cost to repaint or clean the signs was estimated at $100.

11:18 a.m.: Walmart gift cards valued at $500 were taken from a desk at Rexnord Corp., 2400 Curtiss Ave. between 7:20 p.m. March 14 and 7:30 p.m. March 27. Police said a human resource employee reported 10 $50 cards, which were purchased for an employee incentive program, had already been used at two Walmart stores, but the company wanted the incident documented.

Friday, March 22

3:23 p.m.: A license plate was taken from a car in the 6700 block of Blackburn Place between midnight and 10 a.m.

4:50 p.m.: An iPhone valued at $199 was taken from a table at Red Lobster, 3001 Finley Road, between 3:45 and 4:33 p.m. A man and his wife were in their car when they realized his phone had been left inside the restaurant. When he returned to the table, the phone was gone. The manager said the phone had not been turned in. The waitress also reported not seeing the phone. Police said when the man called his phone, it hung up the first time and went to voice mail the second time.

Saturday, April 23

12 a.m.: A garage in the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue was egged between 10 p.m. April 22 and midnight April 23. Police said broken eggs and an empty egg carton were found on the ground. The resident stated a similar incident had occurred on April 2.

3:36 p.m.: A woman came to the police station to report a license plate had been taken from her car between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. when the car was parked in the 2000 block of Prentiss Drive.

5:58 p.m.: A bicycle valued at $100 was taken in the 2000 block of Prentiss Drive sometime between 10 a.m. April 22 and 5:55 p.m. April 23. An officer on patrol was stopped by a woman and reported her son’s bike was missing from a bike rack, where it had been locked with her daughter’s bike. Police said the lock was still intact on the daughter’s bicycle and the front tire of the son’s bicycle must have been removed and damaged to remove it from the rack.
