More than $12,000 in Tools Taken from Work Van
Items from Downers Grove Police reports for April 28-May 4
The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:
Thursday, April 28
10:53 a.m.: A pedestrian street sign was covered in black and blue graffiti at the intersection of Belmont Road and Curtiss Street between 8 a.m. April 25 and 8 a.m. April 28. Damage is estimated at $25.

Tuesday, May 3
7:24 a.m.: An unlocked car parked on 2nd Street was entered between 3 p.m. May 2 and 5 p.m. May 3. The owner said nothing was missing, but papers from the glove box were strewn on the floor of the car.

9:59 a.m.: A GPS valued at $150 was taken from the glove box of an unlocked car in the 5100 block of Fairview Avenue between 11 p.m. May 2 and 7:30 a.m. May 3. Police said the owner left the passenger door unlocked.
4:21 p.m.: Tools valued at $12,515 were taken from a work van parked at Comfort Inn, 3010 Finley Road, between 10 p.m. May 2 and 7 a.m. May 3. A rear lock was punched to gain entry, causing $100 in damage to the van. The driver of the van noticed the tools missing upon arrival at a job site. Police said it appeared only items that could be reached from the outside were taken, and that an alarm on the van apparently did not work.
Wednesday, May 4
7:03 a.m.: A pipe threader valued at $3,000 was taken from a storage container at C.W. Burns Company, 1536 Brook Drive, between 6 p.m. May 3 and 7 a.m. May 4. Police said a hasp lock was broken to gain entry, causing $50 in damage. The business owner also told police he has an ongoing problem of scrap pipe being taken from the same area.
