Lockers Broken into at YMCA

Residential burglary, retail theft among reports.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Theft Over $500

Officers responded to a call from the YMCA on 59th street on December 30 in reference to a theft and spoke to a complainant who stated money was stolen from his wallet. The complainant stated he came out of the shower and saw a subject standing at his open locker holding his wallet. The complainant asked the subject what he was doing holding his wallet, and the subject said he thought it was his locker. The complainant was sure he locked the locker, but the locker was open and the lock missing. The complainant grabbed the wallet from the subject and noticed $500 in cash was missing. When asked where the money was, the subject said someone else was just standing by his locker and left, and then the subject began to exit the locker room. The complainant yelled out for people to stop the subject, but couldn't pursue the subject himself as he was naked. The subjects possible identity was discovered when the front desk traced back which members left the club at that time. Later, another member advised staff that his locker was entered his watch, $200 and a credit card were missing. The lock was also missing.

Disorderly Conduct

An apparently intoxicated man entered a friend's room at the Red Roof Inn on Butterfield and demanded the friend leave before locking himself in the bathroom on December 31. When officers arrived, the man exited the bathroom and became belligerent with the officer. The man was so intoxicated he had difficulty speaking or standing up straight. He also had no clear explanation of what his problem with his friend was at that time. Eventually, after being handcuffed, the man calmed down and was allowed to return to his own room at the hotel to go to bed.

Unlawful Possession of Alcohol by Minor

Charles Planek, 20 of 4010 Downers Drive in DG, was charged with unlawful possession of alcoholic liquor by consumption on January 1 around 3:10 am near the intersections of Grant and Highland.

After observing erratic driving, an officer conducted a traffic stop on December 31 at 12:57 a.m. at Burlington and Main which resulted in numerous arrests. Andrew Pelkey, 20 of 260 Tudor Court in Bolingbrook had his car towed, was cited for improper lane usage, and transported to DGPD for Zero Tolerance procedures. Pelkey's two 18-year-old passengers, Ryan Reynolds-Garibay, of 236 Whitewater in Bolingbrook and Jared Speer, of 235 Malibu in Bolingbrook, were transported to DGPD for processing for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Nicholas Donzanti, 20 of 1333 Briarwood in Naperville, was charged with a DUI and consumption of alcohol by a minor after a traffic stop at Butterfield and Highland on December at 4:40 a.m..

Residential Burglary

The front door of a residence in the 5200 block of Fairmount was kicked in on December 31 at 1:55 a.m. while the resident was inside. The complainant said he was up at the time and heard a loud bang. The complainant asked out “who's there?” and came around the corner to find the front door open but didn't see anyone. It's possible the offender thought the homeowner was on vacation. Damage to the door was estimated at $200.

Malicious Mischief

An officer responded to a call of a car doing “donuts” in the grass of Kingsley School in the afternoon on December 31, but the vehicle was gone by the time the officer arrived.

Criminal Damage to Property

A realtor noticed the back door of a property in the 3900 block of Glendenning Road was broken and unsecured on December 31, but was unsure of how long the door had been broken. Nothing inside the property appeared to be destroyed or stolen, and the damage to the door was estimated at $400.

An unknown offender put superglue in numerous locks at the Best Buy on Butterfield around 5 a.m. on January 1. The estimated damage was $975.

Battery

A member of Good Samaritan Hospital's security was spit in the face while trying to restrain a patient on December 31 at 5 p.m..

Vandalism

Unknown subject(s) put several items in the front yard of a house in the 4800 block of Pershing sometime overnight on December 29. The objects included several pieces of carpet spray painted with words such as “Fork You...”, “Take Me Back” and “Slut” among others. There were also two window sashes, a real estate sign and a grocery cart on the lawn, as well as several plastic forks stuck into the ground.

Retail Theft

An unknown juvenile subject stole an MP3 player and a pair of scissors from the CVS Pharmacy on Main on December 28 around 2:30 p.m.. A store employee stated they heard the sound of plastic breaking and saw a male juvenile pulling a MP3 player out of its packaging. When asked what he was doing, the subject began to walk out of the building. A second male juvenile subject with the offender tried to distract the employee while the first subject left.

Joseph Wagner, 19 of 5918 Elm Street in Lisle, was charged with retail theft after allegedly attempting to steal a bottle of Belvedere Vodka valued at $34.99 from the Westbrook Market on 63rd Street on January 3. Wagner was detained by employees after attempting to run out of the business without paying.

Harrassment by Electronic Device

A complainant stated her son received an off color text message from an unknown number on December 30 around 5 p.m. in the 3200 block of Drew Street.

Disorderly Conduct-Battery

A fight broke out involving numerous people at the Brickhouse Tavern and Tap on Butterfield December 10 after a male subject who was making inappropriate comments to the waitresses all night was asked to leave and was confronted by another customer. As the subject was leaving he made another comment to the hostess, and a separate customer confronted the subject to get him to stop using vulgar language and leave. The subject shoved the other customer and attempted to punch him, causing a several person fight in the entranceway of the business. Those involved had fled the scene before officers arrived.
