Zero Tolerance DUI, Drug Possession, Retail Theft: Police Blotter

Downers Grove police reports, March 15-17.

FRIDAY, MARCH 15

Drug Possession

Stephanie A. Suomi, 19, of Woodridge, was arrested at 4:32 p.m. near Ogden and Lacey avenues, police said.

While conducting random tag checks of vehicles, police discovered the registration for Suomi's car was expired, according to reports.

Once she was pulled over, the arresting officer said he smelled what appeared to be burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle, according to reports. The officer searched the car and found a small, clear baggie with a green, leafy substance.

Suomi was charged with possession of cannabis (less than 2.5 grams). She was also cited for expired registration.

Retail Theft

Jerry Juzwiak, 24, of Westmont, was arrested at 7:26 p.m. at a store in the 3300 block of Finley Road, police said. 

A loss prevention employee at the store said he saw Juzwiak take a laser pointer and a pair of Gunnar Optiks glasses and put them in his pocket. He attempted to leave the store without paying, but was stopped by an employee and escorted to the store's security office, police said.

Police searched Juzwiak and recovered the items reported stolen, according to reports.

He was charged with one count of retail theft, and was issued an April 24 court date in Wheaton.

DUI

William J. Hennessy, of Downers Grove, was arrested at 2:51 p.m. near Ogden and Fairview avenues, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, no insurance, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was issued an April 17 court date in Wheaton.

SUNDAY, MARCH 17

Zero Tolerance DUI

Jay M. Gheewala, 20, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. in the 1200 block of Andrus Avenue, police said.

According to reports, police noticed Gheewala driving with hesitation and then saw him turn without using a signal. After pulling him over, the officer noticed he had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, the report stated.

Gheewala performed a series of field sobriety tests, and was placed under arrest for possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor and zero tolerance driving under the influence, police said.

DUI

Nicole C. Oliver, 28, of St. Charles, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. near Ogden and Lee avenues, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and operating in violation of restriction. She was issued an April 24 court date in Wheaton.
