Pizza Delivery Man's Car Stolen in Downers Grove: Police Blotter

Downers Grove police reports, Oct. 6

Someone took a pizza delivery employee's car on Sunday in downtown Downers Grove, according to police.

The crime of opportunity took place sometime between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. at Warren and Highland avenues, according to a police report. The delivery's man vehicle is a blue 2002 Kia Optima worth $3,000.

The employee had just completed a delivery and arrived back at the restaurant. He parked the car on northbound Highland Avenue in front of the business.

"He advised that he left the door unlocked and the keys in the cup holder of the vehicle," the report said. "He advised that he went inside when he arrived back and began to mop."

At about 11 p.m., the employee looked outside and no longer saw his Optima parked in front.

He contacted his family and a few friends to make sure nobody was playing a prank on him, the report said. None of them said they did anything to the vehicle. There is only one key for the man's Optima, and that was the one that was in the vehicle.

The man's Optima has minor front-end damage and there is also a dent on the front driver's side door, the report said. The car is paid off and there are no lien holders.

The man did not see anyone in the area when he returned to the restaurant and couldn't provide any leads or suspects.

Police briefly checked the downtown area but didn't find anything.
