Downers Grove police reports, Aug. 3-8

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 8

Cannabis possession

Matthew Conness, 19, of the 1800 block of Grant Street in Downers Grove, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on the 4400 block of Lee Avenue, said. An officer said he saw three male teenagers in a car parked on Lee. Conness, the middle passenger, bent over and began moving something around near the floor of the car, police said. He continued to move around even after the officer said he told him to stop. Conness stopped when the officer drew a firearm, according to the report. The officer told him to get out of the car and said he saw a backpack and a small black bag at Conness’ feet. The officer said he searched the other two passengers and didn’t find any contraband. Inside Conness’ backpack, the officer said he found a metal grinder with “leafy green remnants,” a small glass jar with a “green leafy substance,” a multicolored glass pipe with black residue and a nearly empty bottle of rum. The small black bag contained another glass pipe, also known as a bowl, police said. Conness was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.
