Police Blotter: A Purse Containing Cash, Rings Stolen from Shopping Cart

Items from the Downers Grove Police Department reports for September 14.

The following incidents were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Tuesday, September 14

7:33 a.m.: Several items were reported stolen from an AT&T van parked at the Holiday Inn Express, 3031 Finley Road, sometime between 7 p.m. Sept. 13 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 14. The driver of the van reported a two-volt charger, valued at $600, and five sets of combination wrenches, valued at $7,500, were missing. The sliding door lock was punched and no longer locked on the vehicle.

1:31 p.m.: Sometime between 10 p.m. Sept. 13 and 5 a.m. Sept. 14, a side window was damaged on a vehicle parked at Intown Suites, 2540 Ogden.  The Chevy Trailblazer was reported to be hit by an unknown projectile that shattered the rear driver's side window.  Damage is estimated at $500.

3:32 p.m.: Two boxes of cable where reported stolen from a house under construction in the 6600 block of Walnut Grove Court. The builder's representative reported the theft occurred sometime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. while she was not present at the site. A worker reported seeing a white male, 50-60 years old, 6-feet tall and 190 lbs. with short brown-gray hair and driving a brown or burgundy work van, being at the house that morning.

4:39 p.m.:  A purse was reported stolen by a shopper at Kohl's, 2920 Finley Road.  The shopper reported making a purchase and then continuing to shop with her purse in a cart. She left the cart for a few minutes to look at ties and upon return discovered the purse missing. Her daughter could not see the area of the cart that contained the purse and store management stated there was nothing of interest on video tapes. It was reported the purse contained a wallet with $1,500 in currency, one credit card and one debit card; two rings valued at $2,000 each, a cell phone and keys. The woman stated she carried the large amount of cash because her husband travels frequently.
