SUNDAY, AUG. 12

Shoplifting at Toys R Us

Denise Marshall, 44, of the 100 block of Christine Way in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 11:05 a.m. at Toys R Us, 1540 75th St., said. Store employees told police they saw Marshall put several items into her purse and leave the store without paying for them, according to the report. The items police said they found in Marshall’s purse include a Slinky, dominoes and two Leap Pads. The total value of the items was $65.13. Marshall was charged with retail theft and issued a no trespass warning regarding Toys R Us.

Stolen Car

A woman said her car was stolen from a friend’s numbered spot in a lot on the 4400 block of Arbor Circle sometime between 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10 and 5 p.m. Aug. 11, police said. The woman told police she believed someone entered the car through the back window, which was missing. The car is described as a 2002 black Chrysler Sebring convertible.

Car Burglary at Lyman Woods Center

Someone broke out the front passenger window of a car parked at the Lyman Woods Center lot, 901 31st St., around 11:06 a.m., police said. A wallet, which included a driver’s license and a set of keys, was taken from the center console. The total damage, including the value of the wallet, was about $141.

DUI on Butterfield

Robert B. Vandergaw, 46, of the 100 block of Concord Lane in Carol Stream, was arrested around 1:07 a.m. on Butterfield Road, police said. He was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle and expired registration.

Man Harasses McDonald’s Customers

A man was harassing customers in the parking lot at McDonald’s, 225 Ogden Ave., around 2:13 p.m., police said. Officers found the man walking near Roslyn and Ogden and told him he was not allowed back at the restaurant. No charges were filed. 

Marijuana Possession

Lukas A. Cerny, 20, of the 00S200 block of Skyline Drive in Burr Ridge, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Connamara Court and 63rd Street in Westmont, police said. Officers said they smelled marijuana coming from Cerny’s car after they pulled him over for driving erratically. A cigarette packed with a green, leafy substance was found inside the car, police said. Cerny was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, less than 30 grams, and cited with improper lane usage.

Possession of Alcohol by a Minor

Scott T. Petrukovich, 18, of the 8500 block of Washington in Downers Grove, was arrested around 1:31 a.m. on the 1200 block of Andrus, police said. Officers said they approached Petrukovich after they saw him duck down in the front seat of a car. Petrukovich smelled like alcohol when he rolled down the window, police said. Officers said they found two cold Miller Lite bottles, one of which was half-empty, inside the truck. Petrukovich was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and given a Sept. 12 court date. 

Shoplifting at Kohl’s

A woman took three pairs of panties and two tops from Kohl’s, 2920 Finley Rd., around 12:57 p.m., police said. A store employee saw the woman take the items into a dressing room and leave the room without carrying them, police said. The items were not in the dressing room when an employee checked. Store security briefly stopped the woman outside the store before she ran to her silver Ford Escape, police said. The woman is described as white or Hispanic, in her 20s, slightly heavy set and with long brown hair. She was wearing a green and black flower-patterned sundress. The total value of the items was about $68.97.

Stone Goose Migrates to Neighbor’s Driveway

Someone threw a stone goose onto the driveway of a home on the 5600 block of Main Street around 2:33 a.m., police said. Officers found a similar goose in front of a home on the 5500 block of Main Street and left a message for the homeowner. When the owner called back he confirmed that it was indeed his goose, which was already broken at the time it went missing. He “respectfully requested the goose be properly disposed of in the garbage.” The goose did not damage the driveway.

FRIDAY, AUG. 10

DUI near Saratoga and Ogden

Oscar Casares, 24, of the 1000 block of North Keeler in Chicago, was arrested around 2:02 a.m. near the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Ogden, police said. Casares was charged with DUI and improper parking on roadway.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 8

$1,350 in Cardboard Stolen from Office Max

The store manager at Office Max, 1516 Butterfield Rd., reported that the store had not received credit for $1,350 worth of cardboard through the company recycling program, police said. The store had bundled about 30 bails of cardboard since the beginning of the year and had not received credit for any of them, police said. On Aug. 9, the manager said he found someone had cut the lock on the area where he stored the cardboard for pickup, which he told police was a recurring problem. 

TUESDAY, AUG. 7

Stolen Cell Phone

A Best Buy employee’s phone was taken from the store’s customer service counter around 9:45 p.m., police said. The employee placed the phone underneath a charger, still in its box, which she had bought earlier that evening. She went to another part of the store, and when she returned to customer service, her phone was gone. The phone was worth about $599.
