Police Blotter: Man Charged with Armed robbery Against a Juvenile

Downers Grove Police Department reports for Sept. 10-13.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Friday, Sept. 10

6:29 p.m.: Police charged Blade J. Birdsell, 17, of Downers Grove, with armed robbery following an incident that occurred at Cumnor Avenue and 41st Street earlier in the evening. According to the report, a juvenile was attempting to buy $30 worth of marijuana when Birdsell allegedly robbed him at knifepoint of the $30 and a cell phone.

11:56 p.m.: A purse was reported stolen by an employee at Good Samaritan Hospital. The employee realized the purse was missing when leaving work and believed it was left in the hospital cafeteria several hours earlier.  The purse was found in a men's restroom with $100 and two debit cards missing.

Saturday, Sept. 11

8:51 a.m.: A large rock was thrown through the front window of a home in the 6300 block of Prideham Street. The incident occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Sept 10 and 8 a.m. Sept 11, while the resident was in bed. The resident reported hearing a loud noise after going to bed but did not investigate at the time, and discovered the broken window in the morning. No entry to the house was gained by the broken window. Damaged is estimated at $500.

12:19 p.m.: Windows at ZJ China and Edward Jones, 2321 Ogden Ave., were reported damaged by what appeared to be BB-gun shots. The damage is believed to have occurred between the time the restaurant closed at 9 p.m. Sept. 10 and 11 a.m. Sept. 11. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

12:42 p.m.: A rear window of a vehicle parked in a driveway of the 7400 block of Canterbury Place was reported shattered. The damage occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Sept. 10 and noon Sept. 11. Police say the window may have been shot by a BB gun and damage is estimated at $250.

2:48 p.m.: An estimated $150 worth of damage to a vehicle was reported in the 4900 block of Forest Avenue. The owner of the vehicle reported a side mirror was damaged while the owner was in a yoga class. According to police, the mirror appeared to have been removed from the frame because there was no broken glass at the scene. 

5:25 p.m.: Sheldon P. Roberts, 44, of Bolingbrook was charged with retail theft at Ultra Foods, 1212 75th St. According to the report, a loss prevention employee saw Roberts on a store camera placing a 12-pack of beer in his cart and then proceeding to take the vodka bottles from the cart and place them in his pants. Roberts paid for the beer at the register and proceeded to leave the store when he was stopped by the employee and escorted to the security office. Value of the vodka was $62.18.

Sunday, Sept. 12

10 a.m.: A cell phone, iPod and wallet containing a driver's license and credit cards were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 5400 block of Bending Oaks Court. The incident occurred sometime between the hours of 11 p.m. Sept. 11 and 5 a.m. Sept. 12.    

Monday, Sept. 13

12:43 a.m.: Vantrall J. Jackson, 20, of Westmont was charged at with delivery of 30 grams or less of cannabis in the 2100 block of 63rd Street. Police report Jackson was carrying marijuana, baggies and fake pop cans used to conceal items when he was stopped for identification by an officer on patrol.
