Officer Showered With Glass During Arrest

Sergio Torres, 25, 6 W. Sunset Ave., Lombard was charged with a two-count complaint for possession of cannabis and obstructing a police officer after being a passenger in a car stopped during a roadside safety checkpoint in Lombard. A Downers Grove police officer was helping out the Lombard PD and approached the vehicle Torres was sitting in and asked the driver for her driver’s license. As she was getting it, the officer saw Torres close his fist over a sandwich baggie in his left hand and put it between his legs to hide it from the officer. The officer smelled weed in the car and asked who had it, and Torres stared straight ahead and ignored the officer. The officer told Torres he saw him hide it but Torres continued to ignore the officer. Two Lombard officers came over to assist the DGPD officer and asked Torres to either get out of the car or roll his window down, but he continued to stare straight ahead and ignore the police. The DGPD officer opened the driver’s side door and asked the driver to get out so he could apprehend Torres, and while that was happening Torres grabbed something from between his legs, put it in his mouth and started drinking water, according to police. The DGPD officer lunged in and grabbed Torres by his left arm as a Lombard officer shattered the window, unlocked the passenger door, and seized Torres. As a result of the window being smashed, the DGPD officer ended up with glass across his head and body, but was ultimately okay.
