Police Bust Downers Grove Drinking Party, Man Charged

Downers Grove police reports, Aug. 4

An 18-year-old Downers Grove man is headed to court after police broke up an Aug. 4 party at his residence, according to a report.

Umar Aziz, of the 1900 block of Elmore Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct — keeping a disorderly place. Aziz was arrested after officers were dispatched at 12:21 a.m. to his residence for a report of a loud party and possible underage drinking.

Three officers observed numerous people in the backyard while two other officers remained in front of the house.

"When the subjects saw us approach them, many of them ran away in different directions," the report said. "The few that remained were asked by myself who lives at the house. The subjects advised that his name was Umar.

Aziz said there were people inside but most of the people were not drinking. All were under 21 years of age, he said.

Aziz was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Downers Grove police department for booking procedures. He was charged and released on an I-bond with a pending court date. He was also picked up by a sober adult driver, the report said.
