Police: Downers Grove Bank Robbery Suspect Still at Large

Police are still searching for a white man wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt and jeans, who allegedly robbed United Central Bank at gunpoint Jan. 3.

The masked man who robbed a Downers Grove bank at gunpoint earlier this month is still at large, according to police.

Downers Grove Police Sgt. Harry Andler said police are still investigating the Jan. 3 armed robbery at United Central Bank, 1303 Ogden Ave. As of Thursday afternoon, there were no new developments to report.

Police said the bank was robbed around 11:09 a.m. by a man wearing a black ski mask and carrying a gun. No one was injured during the incident.

Downers Grove police have not released information on how much money was stolen during the incident.

The incident prompted "soft lockdowns" at Downers Grove North High School and Herrick Middle School, both of which were closed for winter break, police said.

At North High, practices were being held for gymnastics, basketball and wrestling when the lockdown occurred, but students were not affected, according to District 99 Communications Director Jill Browning.

Police swept the school and determined there was no threat. The school returned to normal shortly after 12:30 p.m., Browning said.

Downers Grove police are continuing to search the area for the suspect. They are asking the public to call 911 to report any suspicious person or vehicle.
