Police: Thief Steals 500 Gallons of Propane Gas from Work Site

The gas was used to heat the general work area of a construction site on Ogden Avenue.

Five-hundred gallons of gas was stolen from a propane tank located at a construction site at 1149 Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove between 3 p.m. on Feb. 6 and 7 a.m. on Feb. 7, according to Downers Grove Police Department reports.

A general contractor for the business under construction in that area told police the propane gas was used to heat the immediate work area at the job site, according to the police report.

Prior to the theft, the propane tank had been filled to 500 gallons. The following morning, the tank was empty and the valve was open.

The job site is surrounded by a ten-foot fence that is locked overnight, according to police.
