Residential Break-In, Obstructing an Officer, Underage Drinking: Police Blotter

Residential Break-in


Downers Grove police received a report of criminal trespassing to a home in the 1200 block of Hawthorne Lane around 9 a.m. The homeowner told police that his wife heard a screeching noise around 2 a.m., and woke up to find the patio door ajar with no sign of force. It was believe that the door was left unlocked before the family went to bed for the night.

No items were reported missing, but the wife found an unsent message on an Apple iPhone that was left in the home office. The message said, "We were in your house, n---a.

Obstructing a Peace Officer, Underage Drinking


Kyle M. Benton, 20, of the 4600 block of Lee Avenue in Downers Grove, was arrested at 2:22 a.m. in the 1100 block of Curtiss Street after police received a call about a suspicious person.

The complainant told police a suspicious person was at the front door of his apartment, yelling obscenities and stating that he was going to key the complainant's vehicle, according to reports.

Police pursued the suspect, identified as Benton, as he continued to walk away, stumbling and swaying from side to side. Benton then tried to run away, but stumbled over a wheel barrel and lost his shoes. An officer stopped him as he tried to climb a fence, according to reports.

Police reported a strong odor of alcohol on Benton's breath as they placed him in handcuffs.

Benton was charged with obstructing a peace officer and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was issued a June 19 court date in Wheaton.

Suspect on the Run


Gaspar Lopez, 51, of the 2700 block of Lombard Street in Chicago, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. in the 4200 block of Lindley Road.

An officer attempted to pull over Lopez outside a business in the 1000 block of Ogden Avenue after learning his registration was suspended for a mandatory insurance violation and that he had three outstanding warrants, according to reports.

Police said Lopez exited the vehicle and attempted to enter the business, ignoring the officer's request to stop. He took off into a backyard on Main Street, and was on the run until another officer found him in a backyard on Lindley Road.

Lopez was charged with one count of obstructing a peace officer, and was issued citations for operating a vehicle with suspended registration for no insurance and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was able to post cash bond on three outstanding warrants from Cook and Lake counties, according to reports. He was issued a June 26 court date in Wheaton.

Criminal Damage to Property


A man told police that he heard a loud noise around 12:10 a.m. near the front of his house, located in the 1900 block of Concord Drive. In the morning, he observed three small dings on the rear door of his van, and a BB on the driveway nearby.
