Retail Theft, Mailbox Beatdowns: Police Blotter

SATURDAY, JUNE 22

Someone broke a woman's mailbox in pieces and left it by her driveway on the 1400 block of Dickson Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., according to a police report. The woman does not have any problems with her neighbors or anyone else, but she did state that there have been a few criminal damage incidents recently in the area.

Man Charged With Retail Theft

Jong M. Wang, 54, of the 24W500 block of Springdale Drive, Naperville, was charged with retail theft. He was arrested at about 4:07 p.m. at a business on the 3300 block of Finley Road. A loss prevention officer watched Wang on a security monitor as he took a package containing a $39 Apple digital A.V. adapter, opened it and took the adapter out, according to a police report.

Wang placed the adapter in his right front pants pocket and proceeded to leave the store. A store employee stopped him just outside the front doors and brought him back inside. Wang was handcuffed, booked, charged and released on an I-bond with a July 24 court date in Wheaton.

They Took the Post, Too

A man noticed at about 7:30 a.m. that his entire mailbox, including the wooden post it was mounted on, was stolen on the 4000 block of Fairview Avenue. The mailbox was custom-painted black with green flames, according to a report.

FRIDAY, JUNE 21

I-Pass Stolen

A resident reported his I-Pass stolen from one of his vehicles on the 200 block of Grant Street. The incident occurred sometime before April 11, according to a police report. The resident received a notice in the mail from the Illinois Tollway Authority regarding multiple violations that began to occur in April. After receiving the notice, the resident checked his vehicles and could not find the listed I-Pass.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19

Neighbor Spots Mailbox Beatdown

A woman discovered her mailbox damaged at about 7 a.m. on the 1300 block of 67th Place. The woman's neighbor said she heard a loud noise from outside at about 10:30 p.m. June 18. The neighbor looked out her window and saw a male holding a baseball bat near the woman's mailbox. The man then got inside the rear passenger side of a silver midsize SUV and drove away eastbound on 67th Place. The woman said she would sign complaints if an offender was ever identified.
