Shopper Attempts to Steal Nipple Cream, Other Items from Toy Store

Lawnmower taken, cars damaged among reports.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

 

Retail Theft

A shopper at Toys R Us on Butterfield Road was caught attempting to steal various items on October 31 around 2:30 p.m.. A Loss Prevention officer told DGPD he observed the woman, 21-year-old Jasmine Henry of 205 Laurel Drive in North Aurora, walk down an aisle and put numerous items in to a diaper bag. The Loss Prevention officer followed Henry to the cash register where she purchased a few items before leaving the store. The Loss Prevention officer detained Henry outside and when police arrived told DGPD Henry was with a male who kept walking when Henry was detained and that the male put a bag that may contain some of the stolen items into a car. The DGPD officer contacted the male who took the officer to the car and turned over the bag, which contained stolen items including baby bottles, nipple guards, storage bags, cleansing wipes and more. Henry was charged with one State complaint for retail theft.

Burglary from motor vehicle

An unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 100 block of 2nd Street had items stolen from it sometime between 10 p.m. October 30 and 7 a.m. November 1. Taken from the car were a white 30gb iPod, a red Sony personal DVD player and a silver Magellan GPS. There were no signs of forced entry.

Criminal damage to property

A lock was broken and a door removed from a wooden shed in the 7100 block of Barrett Street sometime between 3 p.m. October 30 and 2:30 p.m. November 1. Nothing in the shed appeard to be missing and the damage was estimated at $50.

A 2004 Chevy Malibu parked in the 3900 block of Saratoga Ave suffered damage estimated at $300 over the past six months, according to the car's owner. From April to mid-May of 2011 the owner noticed small scratch marks on her car's door panels, which looked like someone had keyed the car. When more scratches appeared in October, the owner filed a police report.

Theft under $500

A red Yard Machine lawnmower valued at $175 was taken from the front yard of a house in the 5300 block of Fairmount Avenue on November 1 around 10:45 a.m. The owner said he was mowing his lawn and left the lawnmower by the curb at the end of his driveway while he went to his backyard to get a garbage can, and when he returned 5-8 minutes later the lawnmower was gone. The owner thinks someone may have driven past and thought he was throwing it out.
