Suspended Registration Leads to Marijuana Charges

Downers Grove police seized 1.39 grams of pot while searching the Countryside man's car during a traffic stop.

A Downers Grove police officer's random registration check Tuesday led to pot charges for a Countryside man, according to a police report.

Thomas Gallos, 30, of the 9700 block of Lorraine Drive, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, driving with a suspended license and driving with a suspended registration after a traffic stop Tuesday, July 15.

At around 10:06 p.m., an officer pulled over Gallos, who was driving a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta, near 75th Street and Woodward Avenue after the officer's in-car computer showed the vehicle had a suspended registration, the report stated. Gallos, who was shown to be the Jetta's owner, also had a suspended license, the report added.

An inventory search of Gallos' vehicle turned up a "brown blunt containing a green leafy substance in plain view," between front right-passenger seat and the passenger-side front door, the report stated. Police seized 1.39 grams of marijuana, according to the report.

Gallos, who had previously been cuffed, was then Mirandized, brought to the Downers Grove police station and booked, the report stated.
