Tree Trimmers Help Cops Chase Down Accused Burglar

Downers Grove police arrest Hillside man accused of burglarizing a residence on April 12.


Downers Grove Police arrested a man suspected of residential burglary with the help of three tree trimmers who were chasing the man down, a news advisory said.

Louis Colella, 51 of 253 Linden Ave, Hillside, was charged with one count of residential burglary.

Police responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 5400 block of Blodgett Avenue around 11:29 a.m. April 11.

According to the news advisory, the resident came home, entered her house through a side door, and saw man later identified as Colella leaving her house through the front door.

When the resident confronted him, police said that Colella ran south toward Barth Pond.

A tree trimming crew working in the area and followed him. Police officers saw the man running and were able to take him into custody, the news advisory said.

Colella is currently being held in the DuPuge County Jail. Bail was set at $250,000, until he is able to post $25,000 bond.
