Women Robbed at Gunpoint in McCollum Park

Women sustained minor injuries when robbery suspect struck them with the firearm, cops say.


Two women were robbed at gunpoint while sitting in their car early Monday morning in McCollum Park.

Downers Grove police said the women had returned to the park about 1:41 a.m. to look for a wallet that they had lost earlier in the day. Both were robbed as they sat inside their vehicle in the north parking lot at McCollum Park.

During the incident, a man entered the rear of the vehicle and demanded their purses, police said.

The man displayed a gun during the robbery and fled on foot before officers arrived. Both woman sustained minor injuries when they were struck with the firearm, Sgt. Harry Andler said, spokesman for the Downers Grove Police.

They were treated at the scene and released.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned male in his 20s, wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants.

Police said in written news advisory that the suspect’s face was partially concealed by a mask.

Anyone with information about the suspect or robbery is asked to call 911. The police investigation remains ongoing.
