Coming Soon: Real Housewives of Downers Grove?

There's a Facebook page devoted to Hinsdale's "housewives." Could it happen here?

Now that the Real Housewives of Hinsdale have made a splash on Facebook, will other disgruntled and self-deprecating suburbanites follow suit?

According to an April 14 story in TribLocal, some residents of the upscale suburb to the east have taken swipes at local foibles, from excessive plastic surgery to morning coffee at Starbucks. The Real Housewives of Hinsdale Facebook page now has more than 1,600 fans, including several from Downers Grove.

While conveyed on the page, others seem to find them spot on—or at least highly entertaining.

What do you think? Do the Real Housewives of Downers Grove need their own Facebook page? Or maybe there's another local interest group or demographic that would instantly garner a following?

I'm off FB for lent so I will have to wait a couple of days to check it out but....having grown up in Hinsdale I can tell you that I bet its not too far off. It was a a bit ridiculous when I lived there (money wise) and it was only going one way when I left! With that kind of money attitudes can be weightier than bank accounts!!

I think it's amusing. (And you can judge, if you want.) Reading about it, I sense what's said is more true than not, despite attempts at levity and exaggeration. Writing a column months ago at the Hinsdale Starbucks, I noted many of the same stories the page illuminates. Heard two moms talk about where they got UGGS for their two-year olds and why they're so ridiculously unpractical. The conversation moved on to purses and vacations. (I was thinking at the time my child can't find her Target boots and we've been encouraging her to wear tennis shoes instead. There's some tread left from summer, right?) As for a Real Housewives of Downers Grove Facebook Page. I wouldn't participate or read; I get enough of it already and it's not all that amusing, really. Downers Grove is not Hinsdale. And my friends would rather talk about anything other than the social trappings of housewivery.

I usually love me some self-deprecating humor, but I'm decidedly *not* a RHOH fan. More than anything, in a town of abundant resources, it makes me sad they have nothing better to do. RHODG? I wouldn't hold my breath, although I think our days are probably much more entertaining.

I am not on FB but I do watch RH. I imagine RHDG ladies in black yoga pants hashing out DG topics like: DGSRC vs MH pools, DGS vs DGN, Northwest DG vs Northeast DG, Starbucks moms vs Caribou coffee moms. McMansion moms vs Vintage Charm moms. You get the idea, all in good fun;)

Your experiences are more in line with mine, Genene. You want my housewife stories? Fine. I'll tell you all about the bright orange Cheeto vomit at 2 a.m. after a child overindulges at a birthday party, trying to find new and exciting things to do with a pound of ground beef, and what blue frosting does to a child's digestive system. Also, adventures in dog de-skunking. As for accessories, my main dilemma is trying to find two socks that match in the laundry basket of mismatched socks that is perpetually housed in my bedroom. Probably in my "love corner," wherever that is. Also, I like to watch Judge Judy. Any questions?

Exactly that, Susan. Your response makes me laugh in the way I need.
