Council Delays Vote on Controversial Walgreens Location

On March 6 the village council will vote on the actions pertaining to the proposed Walgreens at 63rd and Woodward.

Last night the Village Council postponed making a decision about the controversial proposed Walgreens until March 6.

While many residents were present at Tuesday night's council meeting, only two spoke to the council regarding their opposition to the potential Walgreens location at the northwest corner of 63rd and Woodward.

For the project to be given the go-ahead, the council would have to approve four separate actions: annexation, rezoning, lot consolidation and a special use permit. One resident requested that “these issues be considered one proposal,” she said.

If there were no annexation, there would be no need to talk about rezoning; and there would be no conversation about lot consolidation, she said.

Commissioner Bob Barnett said he wanted to reiterate the council is continuing to discuss this issue and wanted to solicit the public’s opinion.

A resolution to appoint new members to boards and commissions was also postponed.

Village Manager Dave Fieldman announced the final report from the stormwater utility consultants will be on the website the first week of March and the matter will appear before the council later in March.

After the brief meeting the council adjourned and moved into closed session.
