Council OKs Higher Pay for Village Manager, Attorney

Downers Grove Village Council members signed off on new contracts and raises for Manager Dave Fieldman and Village Attorney Enza Petrarca during a Jan. 14 meeting.

Downers Grove's village manager and attorney will both receive raises, as part of new contracts agreed upon by the village council Jan. 14.

Council members voted 5-1 in approval of a 5.5 percent raise for manager Dave Fieldman, and unanimously approved a 5 percent raise for attorney Enza Petrarca Commissioner David Olsen was absent.

"I think we have found two very good agreements for two very important members of our team," said Commissioner Geoff Neustadt.

The pay bumps came after annual reviews of both employees Jan. 7; their current contracts expired in March 2013.

"We've got two great individuals here. We do demand a lot of these two folks, and they deliver," said council member Greg Hosé.

"We need folks on a day-to-day basis, on the ground, setting the right tone, making sure that we have the innovative spirit that we're looking for in Downers Grove and getting things done."

The contracts detail a $143,616 base salary for Petrarca and a $186,200 salary for Fieldman.

Both could also be eligible for additional bonuses; no specific amounts are specified in the contract. If either is fired without cause, each would receive severance pay equal to their annual salary, plus accrued vacation time, the agreements state.
