Council Votes to Cut Down Number of Holiday Parking Days

Village council voted to decrease number of holiday parking days by six.

What do Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, and Christopher Columbus have in common? You'll have to pay to park on their holidays now in Downers Grove.

The village council voted Tuesday night in favor of an amendment that cuts down the number of village parking holidays from 14 to 8. Joining the three mentioned above are Washington's Birthday, Election Day and Veteran's Day.

According to the proposed amendment, cutting the number of parking holidays is expected to generate approximately $10,000 in additional revenue for the Parking Fund.

The holidays that made the cut and will parking holidays are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Day and the Fourth of July.

Additionally, the council voted in favor of other minor parking amendments: the relocation of 12 downtown employee parking spots and restrictions on students that park on Powell and Norfolk Street near .
