Downers Grove Appealing Disability Payments to Former Firefighter

An appeals court found Edward Lambert eligible for disability payments; Lambert says his career ended when he was injured on the job in 2005.

The Village of Downers Grove is appealing to the Illinois State Supreme Court a decision by the 2nd District Appellate Court to award disability payments to a former Village firefighter, the Chicago Tribune reports

According to the paper, in a 2-1 decision, the Court reversed a decision by the Circuit Court of DuPage County to allow the Village’s Fire Department Pension Board to deny payments to Lambert, who says his career ended when he hurt his knee on the job in 2005, claiming he was overstating his condition; Lambert’s attorney told the paper he is owed $110,000 in disability payments and a $55,000 annual pension.

"I'm disappointed that they've taken this approach to this case," Lambert told the paper. "They need to stop playing games with me and they need to pay me so me and my family can move on with our lives… I can't crawl around on the ground. I can't give my kids horsey rides.”
