Downers Grove Council to Consider Parking Restrictions on Elm Street

The council will consider an ordinance to implement four-hour parking on both sides of Elm Street, between Prairie and Chicago avenues.

The will consider an ordinance Tuesday that will impose four-hour parking restricitions on a section of Elm Street, between Prairie and Chicago avenues.

Although all streets adjacent to Elm Street currently have parking restrictions in place, the section between Prairie and Chicago does not. 

After receiving a neighborhood petition from residents on the block, village officials surveyed the area and found that many Metra commuters have been taking advantage of the free and unrestricted parking, leaving their cars for the majority of the day.

During the council's Aug. 21 meeting, Downers Grove Public Works Director Nan Newlon said village staff agrees that restrictions should be implemented between Prairie and Chicago in order to bring Elm Street in conformity with the adjacent streets in the neighborhood.

Staff is recommending an ordinance that would impose four-hour parking limits on both sides of the street.

The village council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave.
