Downers Grove CPA Announces Run for State Treasurer

DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan announced his candidacy Tuesday afternoon at the Du Quoin State Fair.

DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan, a resident of Downers Grove, announced his candidacy for state treasurer Tuesday afternoon at the Du Quoin State Fair.

Grogan, a Republican, is a certified public accountant with a background in public accounting, auditing pensions plans, governments and non-profit organizations.

He was first elected DuPage County Auditor in 2008, and is currently serving his second term.

Should he be elected Illinois State Treasurer, he would be the first CPA to hold the office, he said.

"We need a financial professional watching over our tax dollars," Grogan said on his campaign Facebook page. "The practices of the past have led us to lost jobs, the brink of bankruptcy and a government that serves career politicians. I’ll work to change that."

Other declared candidates in the race for state treasurer include former DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom, a Republican, and Sen. Mike Frerichs (D-Champaign). Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross could also enter the race in coming weeks, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Current State Treasurer Dan Rutherford announced in June that he is seeking the Republican nomination for governor in 2014.
