Downers Grove Library Hires Construction Manager for Interior Renovation

The library board selected Shales McNutt Construction to manage the $2.4 million renovation scheduled to begin early next year.

Downers Grove Public Library officials have selected a construction manager for its upcoming interior renovation.

The library board voted unanimously Aug. 14 to award the contract to Shales McNutt Construction of Elgin, a company that just recently completed public library renovations in Elgin, Barrington and Arlington Heights.

The selection was made after a thorough interview process and evaluation of qualifications, library officials said.

“The construction manager is responsible for taking the design as determined by the architects, the budget as determined by the board, and the project results as determined by the planning process, and bringing them all together for a successful project,” Library Director Rick Ashton said in a statement.

Downers Grove Library officials have spent much of the year planning the interior renovation of its current facility, 1050 Curtiss St., which they say is necessary to modernize the building and make its features more inviting to residents.

The $2,394,000 budget will cover planning, design, construction, furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The project is scheduled to go out to bid in late October, with construction beginning in February. The library will remain open during the renovation, which is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2014.
