Village Spent 70 Percent of Snow Budget in January

As crews work this winter to keep Downers Grove streets clear of snow and ice, the village has spent nearly 70 percent of its fiscal year budget on snow removal and related services last month, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In January, the village spent $438,000 of its $637,763 budget on snow services, which comes from the village's $43.6 million general fund, according to the article.

The Chicago Tribune reports the village spent five times more on snow services in January compared to last year and so far this year, 33 inches of snow has been recorded in Downers Grove from 24 separate snow events.

Meanwhile, the village has a couple hundred tons of salt still on hand and has ordered more from the state, according to the Chicago Tribune.
