Nybo Seeks Legislative Interns

Students from across the area can apply to work with Rep. Chris Nybo.

Chris Nybo is seeking legislative interns for the fall.

Nybo, an Elmhurst Republican, is seeking high school and college applicants who are interested in gaining legislative and public policy experience. The internship program begins Sept. 1 and runs through Dec. 15.

“The Legislative Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for community-minded individuals to learn more about state government, public policy and legislative affairs,” Nybo said in a press release.

Participants in the legislative internship program will learn multiple skills, including office management, community relations, constituent communications, monitoring local issues, along with formulating and evaluating policy positions.

Nybo’s summer legislative intern program attracted interns from 9 different towns, including Hinsdale, Glen Ellyn, Oak Brook, Lombard, Elmhurst, Downers Grove, Naperville, LaGrange and Bensenville. The students from the group represented eight area high schools including Glenbard West, Hinsdale Central, Glenbard East, Fenwick, Downers Grove South, Immaculate Conception, Nequa Valley, and Fenton. Colleges represented include UIC, Boston College, Davidson, University of Illinois-Champaign, Benedictine, Indiana University, Taylor University, and the University of Iowa.

“This was a great experience to be a part of the legislative process and to serve constituents who had questions about state issues,” said Jon Osterhout, an Elmhurst resident who will be completing his summer internship. “I strongly encourage any student who is interested to apply for this fun and exciting program which gave me hands-on experience in public policy.”

Nybo’s staff will work with the students in need of education and community service credits. The fall internships are flexible in terms of hours and length of commitment for students who may have other obligations.  Applicants are encouraged to provide a resume. Anyone interested in the internship should call Nybo’s district office at (630) 519-3652 or email lafitz1010@gmail.com.
