On the Agenda: Village Council Meeting (6/12)

Tonight's meeting, in brief.

The Village Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers inside Village Hall. Below are some highlights from the proposed agenda.

On the Consent Agenda:

• A resolution authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with DuPage County for roadway and traffic signal improvements at Belmont and Curtiss.

From the resolution:

This intergovernmental agreement sets the terms for county-funded intersection improvements at Belmont Road and Curtiss Road to include widening the intersection to include left turn lanes, widening the structure over St. Joseph’s Creek and modernizing the traffic signal. The purpose of these improvements is to improve the flow of traffic on Belmont Road, a County arterial roadway, and improve safety for motorists and the public. DuPage County is funding this project. Work is anticipated to begin in early summer of 2012.

The proposed intergovernmental agreement includes the following key terms and conditions:

The County will be responsible for completing all preliminary and design engineering, right-of-

way acquisition, permit processing, letting/awarding of a construction contract, financing the

construction and construction engineering.

The County will own, operate and maintain the signal and pay for all costs associated with its

future routine maintenance.

The Village will continue to pay for all energy costs related to the signal.

Belmont Underpass

Work during Previous Week

• Completed installation of the metal roofs and ceilings at the three south canopies.

• Pavement removal and earth excavation and aggregate base course work for NB Belmont, north of ramps.

• Installed store front windows at 3 south canopies.

• Completed storm sewer installations NB Belmont.

• Formed and poured various sidewalks.

• Completed asphalt work for south parking lots.

• Poured curb and gutter for north east ramp.

• Installed the cameras in the pedestrian tunnel and tunnel structures.

Planned Work

The contractor will continue excavating old Belmont Road north of the RR Tracks. As the excavation proceeds north and crosses driveways entrances, the driveways will be inaccessible between 7:00am – 3:30pm. The contractor will notify the residents the day prior to the excavation to allow the residents to park on old Belmont Rd. in the work zone north of their property. The contractor plans to cross each driveway one at a time to minimize the disturbance. At the end of each day, the driveway will be re-established on temporary aggregate and will be accessible from the south.

• Complete curbs for northbound Belmont and prepare for paving

• Install new traffic signals at Prairie and Haddow

• Landscape south of tracks and south parking lots

• Complete the installation of the new north boarding platforms and the sidewalks connecting to them

• Continue work on the south pedestrian tunnel and the south stairwells

The Contractor anticipates that Belmont Road will be open for four lanes of traffic and the new pedestrian tunnel could be opened in late June.
