Village Council Forum: Question 6

How much money have you raised, continue to plan to raise and spend on this campaign?

Dominic Scalzetti
I've had one fund raiser and I don't know the exact figure, I believe I raised about $10,000.

Mark Thoman
I need to get to know you better (laughter)...I haven't had any fundraisers. I've talked with a lot of people and I've gotten contributions. I ran four years ago on a shoestring and I'm running on a shoestring again this year. Next Tuesday, I am going to have a meet-and-greet, but it is specifically not a fundraiser. I think my total so far is about $3,000.

Craig Skala
I have not raised any money, nor have I formed a political committee. My funding comes from the Skala household bank account. I'm probably about $500 into this. Like I said, I'm just your average guy just trying to help out my fellow neighbors.

Geoff Neustadt
From the generous support of family and friends and residents, I’ve raised about $7,000. I've used those dollars to promote my campaign with yard signs and promotional literature, mailings, postage, also for stuff that it takes to run a campaign. I've not received any money from any vendors or folks who do business with the village. I've been very careful to watch our ethics ordinance and not accept money from folks that are not on the approved list.

Sean Durkin
I have raised approximately $5,000. I too, have not accepted any campaign contributions from village vendors or employees or anything like that, following strict guidelines that this council passed regarding campaign reform four years ago. I have spent or will spend approximately 85 percent or so of that money, and whatever remaining money I do have I will be donating to Helping Girls Navigate Adolescence, which is a local, Downers Grove 501(c)(3).

Well, I sure hope my wife isn't listening to this because all of the funding for my campaign other than about $300 in generous donations has come out of my pocket. I'm not spending nearly the amount these folks are spending. I spend time out on the street corner. I am a people person, and the reality is if you're going to vote for me, you're going to vote for me because you know me, because you trust me, not because you've seen a yard sign. I've got yard signs. My wife has been a generous donor, I guess, of those yard signs because they've come out of my household budget. This is my campaign this is not someone else's campaign. I owe nothing to anybody for my campaign. When I'm elected to this Village Council I will serve you, nobody else.

I've raised somewhere between $8,500 to $9,000 from friends, family, residents, and have been spending it, as candidate Neustadt said, on yard signs, literature, things of that nature. I don't plan on holding any other fundraisers. I've been very pleased with the outpouring of support that I've received, and at the end I plan on spending most if not all of it. If there is anything left, I plan on donating it to charity. I've not yet determined which one it will be.

Becky  Rheintgen
Hi, I’ve held two fundraisers and have raised about $3,000, and that pretty much pays for yard signs and literature for my walking campaign. At the end of my campaign if there's anything left, which I really don't think there's going to be anything left, I've designated the Matthew Rheintgen Memorial Fund for my nephew. He died from leukemia and his wish was to provide gaming systems for children who are hospitalized. That's where that will go if there's any dollars left.
