Village Real Estate Open House Scheduled for Saturday

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011 the Village Council approved the sale of surplus real estate owned by the Village at 5237 Benton Avenue. Open houses for prospective buyers have been scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2011 and Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Inquiries regarding this property are being taken at 630.434.5543.

The Village is conducting this sale pursuant to certain sections of the Illinois Municipal Code governing the sale of surplus real estate by government entities. The property was purchased to construct a stormwater storage basin to solve flooding issues in the area. Engineers were able to successfully complete the project by burying the storage basin underground on a portion of the property's side yard, negating the need to demolish the home on the property.

With the stormwater project complete and flooding alleviated, the Village is offering the home and property for sale. As a result of the sale, the Village will recover a significant share of the property's purchase price, which reduces the total cost of the stormwater improvements. With the property being returned to the tax rolls, the Village will save staff time and money for the care and maintenance of the property.

The terms and conditions for the sale and purchase of this property are provided in the attachments below. The minimum purchase price for the 2000+ square foot, 3 bedroom / 2 bath home is $260,000. Sealed proposals will be accepted until December 30, 2011.
