Village Updates Residents on Storm

Latest information suggests most will have power restored by end of day.

The Village of Downers Grove has released new informationabout efforts to restore power throughout the village, as well as the National Weather Service's report on Tuesday's EF-1 tornado:

The National Weather Service (NWS) has indicated that a small tornado occurred in Downers Grove on Tuesday, June 21. These post storm assessments by the NWS are generated using data that is unavailable prior to or during actual storm events.  The Village utilizes criteria approved by the National Weather Service to determine the activation of the warning system.  This specifies that visual confirmation of a funnel cloud or tornado is required when considering siren activation.  Small tornadoes lasting just several minutes, like the one experienced on Tuesday evening, are difficult to identify particularly at night when visibility is poor.

Recovery efforts continue throughout the evening and ComEd crews are working throughout the community to restore power.  Of those customers without power, ComEd has indicated that 90% should be restored by midnight Thursday (6/23) and the remaining 10% on Friday (6/24). This restoration time was determined following a tour of the community by ComEd and Village official.
